United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in member States. The UNIDO Regional Office in New Delhi covers seven countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka and acts as a focal point to promote UNIDO's mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The core elements of UNIDO's technical cooperation services in India are to implement its activities in harmony with national policy priorities and development strategies, to build strong and long-term partnerships with donors; to increase UNIDO's visibility, and to focus its assistance in a manner that addresses international development goals, especially the Sustainable Development Goals. 'Safeguarding the environment' is one of the focus area of UNIDO, where it strives to work in a number of potential areas, like pollution, climate change, habitat destruction, and over-exploitation of natural resources. Against this background, UNIDO supports countries in their environmental management efforts, including the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements and the provision of sustainable energy.The centre helps to create new green industries, establishing national road maps for greening the supply chain, determining benchmarks and indicators, disseminating and sharing best practices, running clean technology programmes, undertaking various capacity-building exercises and contributing to international forums with the necessary research and expertise.
