AI Voice Assistant ‘Samadhan Didi’ Brings Multilingual Access to Public Grievance Redressal
In a recent step towards making public services more accessible, the Government of India has introduced ‘Samadhan Didi’, an AI-powered voice assistant designed to help citizens register grievances through the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS).
Developed by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with Bhashini, the platform seeks to remove linguistic and procedural barriers that often discourage citizens from using online grievance mechanisms. The initiative was launched by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh at Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi.
One of the key features of Samadhan Didi is its ability to understand spoken complaints in multiple Indian languages. Instead of navigating complex forms or identifying the correct ministry and grievance category, users can simply describe their concerns verbally. The system interprets the complaint, seeks additional details when required, and automatically routes it to the appropriate government department.
The technology behind the chatbot combines Bhashini’s language-processing capabilities with AI models trained on historical grievance data from CPGRAMS. This enables the platform to recognise citizen concerns, classify them accurately, and facilitate faster submission of complaints. The system has been developed within secure government infrastructure to ensure privacy and protection of user data.
India’s linguistic diversity presents both an opportunity and a challenge for digital governance. By enabling interactions in multiple languages, the chatbot aims to make grievance redressal services more inclusive. While the platform already supports the languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, efforts are underway to gradually incorporate additional regional and indigenous languages, expanding its reach to a wider population.
The launch also reflects the growing role of AI in public administration. Beyond automation, such systems have the potential to improve accessibility, reduce procedural complexity, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. By simplifying the process of registering grievances, AI-enabled platforms can help bridge the gap between citizens and government institutions.
As India continues to expand its digital public infrastructure, initiatives such as Samadhan Didi demonstrate how emerging technologies can be adapted to address practical governance challenges while ensuring that public services remain accessible to people across linguistic and geographical boundaries.
