Executive Summary : | This project focuses on the difunctionalisation of C-C multiple bonds and the synthesis of small heterocycles for therapeutic interest. Small heterocycles are crucial organic molecules used in various sectors, including fragrance, dyes-pigments, agrochemicals, materials, and the pharmaceutical industry. Heterocyclic chemistry emerged as a new area of research in the 18th century, with over half of six million compounds recorded in the chemical abstract being heterocycles. With new applications emerging daily, the demand for small heterocyclic molecules continues to increase. Metal-free reaction conditions have gained attention in the pharmaceutical industry for their green chemical point of view and economic affordability. Hypervalent iodine (HVI) chemistry has gained attention in the last decade, with difunctionalisation of C-C multiple bonds being a common protocol in organic transformations. By utilizing the properties of cyclic hypervalent iodine reagents, potentially bioactive heterocycles can be produced. The proposed methodology will focus on accessing materials containing oxazolidone and indole, utilizing the "UMPOLUNG" concept of different HVI reagents. Investigation will also be done on synthesizing new heterocyles-based HVI reagents and their reactivity. The goal is to improve comfort and life expectancy in everyday life. |
