Executive Summary :

The study investigates the relationship between cognitive and social-emotional competence, which includes flexible cognitive control, self-regulation, emotional expression, emotional knowledge, problem-solving, and social skills. It aims to investigate the trajectory of developmental changes and predict the relationship between flexible cognitive control and performance monitoring in children aged 4-10 years. The study also aims to understand the influence of other intervening variables, such as intelligence, behavioral manifestations of executive functions, and temperament, on academic success and problem-solving skills. The research will be conducted in two phases: validation studies to validate temperament and executive function questionnaires and create a child face database for emotional faces. The study will also involve behavioral experiments in two studies, based on the cued switching paradigm. Participants will include children aged 4-10 years from pre-primary and primary schools in Allahabad. Data will be analyzed using a cross-sectional trajectory model approach to examine age-related differences and structure equation modeling to examine the interaction across measures of individual differences, flexible cognitive control, and outcome measures.
