Executive Summary : | Pediatric CNS tumors are the second most common cancers after leukemia.Historically, the diagnosis of CNS tumor has been based primarily on histopathologic features. However, patients with morphologically identical tumors may experience different clinical outcomes and responses to treatment because the underlying genetic characteristics of the tumors differ with age groups and anatomical location.Thus,the need for broad molecular analysis of CNS tumours has vastly increased. We aim to analyze molecular profile of pediatric gliomas and establish molecular based subgroups with distinct demographic ,histomorphological , genetic and prognostic profiles.This study would also help in capacity building of north-eastern region institutes.We aim to develop a protocol for pediatric glioma subgrouping that will be based upon robust, economical, reproducible and specific assays, which could be applicable in pathology laboratories in developing countries. |

Achievements : | The project successfully established a cost-effective molecular diagnostic pipeline integrating FISH, Nano String, and IHC for glioma stratification. Nano String technology demonstrated superior sensitivity and multiplex capacity for detecting rare and low-abundance fusions. The collaborative network trained regional labs in advanced molecular neuropathology, empowering NEIGRIHMS and GNRC for sustained diagnostic capability. |
