Fellowships & Scholarships
DBT in co-ordination with Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore provides DBT- Post Doctoral Fellowship for Indian nationals for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Applied Biology. The main objective is to train scientists in frontier areas of research in Biotechnology at premier institutions in India which are engaged in major biotechnological research activities.
Eligibility: Applicants should possess Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. Applicants who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S. thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 yrs, while 45 yrs in case of women and in-service candidates. The fellows are selected on the basis of their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview is held at IISc, Bangalore. The selection of Fellows is usually made twice a year. The Fellowship is tenable in research Institution / Universities including non-profit R&D Institution within India and normally are not availed at the same Institution where candidates have earned their Ph.D/M.D./M.S. degree or with the doctoral thesis supervisor or continue on doctoral thesis work.
Fellowship amount: The Research Associateship is tenable for a period of 2 yrs. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research and overall importance of the project, it may be extended upto 5 yrs. Each fellow is entitled to a monthly stipend in the range of Rs. 36,000-40,000/- (Rs. 28,000/- for those who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D/M.D./M.S. degree) plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms. A research contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/- per annum is also provided.
