Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF)

PMRF scheme has been designed to attract the talent pool of our country toward doctoral programs of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and for carrying out research in cutting edge science and technology domains, with focus on national priorities. For each participating IIT and IISc, the Ph.D admissions under this scheme will be supernumerary. Eligibility: Students who have completed, or are in the final yr of 4 yr undergraduate or 5 yr integrated M.Tech or integrated M.Sc. courses or 5 yr undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in Science and Technology streams from IIEST/IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs and centrally funded IIITs are eligible, provided they fulfil prescribed minimum qualifications. The applicants should have completed the required academic qualification in the last 5 years. The selection process will be a rigorous two stage process with screening by the Reviewers and final selection by the Selection Committee for each broad discipline to ensure selection of the best talent. Fellowship Amount: Selected candidates will be offered admission to Ph.D. program in one of IITs/IISc with a fellowship of Rs.70000 p.m. for initial 2 yrs, then Rs.75000 p.m. for the 3rd yr, and Rs.80000 p.m. in the 4th and 5th yrs. A research grant of Rs.2 Lakh p.a. will be provided to each Fellow for a period of 5 yrs to cover their academic contingency expenses, foreign/national travel etc. There is a rigorous review of the performance of PMRF holders by National Coordination Committee (NCC) for yearwise continuation of the fellowship. The tenure of fellowship is 4 yrs for students from Integrated Courses and 5 yrs for B.Tech students.
