Fellowships & Scholarships
The India Alliance provides a bunch of prestigious fellowships targeted to build excellence in the Indian bio-medical scientific community by supporting future leaders in the field. It helps to promote brain gain through generous and flexible funding, using competitive and transparent processes that place a premium on well deserving candidates having interesting ideas. The Alliance offers funding which covers the full spectrum of biomedical science from fundamental molecular and cellular studies to clinical and public health research for researchers at different stages of their careers. Intermediate Fellowship is for researchers who wish to establish an independent laboratory with a high-quality research programme in India while the Senior Fellowship supports outstanding researchers of any nationality, either medically qualified or science graduates, with demonstrated ability to lead an independent research project and group, and who wish to pursue a research career in an academic institution in India.
Eligibility: The SIF competition is open for basic science/veterinary researchers with 4 -15 yrs of post-PhD research experience. Applicants should choose the most appropriate scheme suitable for them based on their qualification, research experience, career trajectory and track record. Usually, Intermediate Fellowships are considered suitable for applicants with 4-7 yrs of post-PhD research experience who have been successful in building a track record of pursuing cutting edge research and wish to establish their own independent research.
The India Alliance has no restrictions based on age or nationality in all its schemes. All schemes require a preliminary application. Short-listed applicants are invited to submit a full application, which are sent out for international peer-review and screened by the India Alliance's Fellowship Selection Committee. Selected applicants are invited for interview with the Fellowship Selection Committee.
Fellowship amount: Fellows are provided with the salary support set by the India Alliance for each scheme i.e. up to 13.8 and 16.1 Lakh p.a. as Intermediate and Senior Fellowship respectively. In cases where a Fellow has been receiving a salary from their Host Institution, a top up is provided to meet the indicated salary level. Generous research funds up to 3.6 and 4.5 Crores for Intermediate and Senior Fellows respectively are provided to commensurate with the requirements of the proposed research along with the flexibility to spend as necessary to meet the research goals. Additionally, funds to foster collaborations including funds for collaborative visits (short or long term), visits for training, conferences and meetings are also provided, with no restriction on frequency or location. The duration is up to 5 yrs.
