India Alliance Basic Biomedical Research Fellowships: Early Career Fellowships (ECF)

The India Alliance provides a bunch of prestigious fellowships targeted to build excellence in the Indian bio-medical scientific community by supporting future leaders in the field. It helps to promote brain gain through generous and flexible funding, using competitive and transparent processes that place a premium on well deserving candidates having interesting ideas. The Alliance offers funding which covers the full spectrum of biomedical science from fundamental molecular and cellular studies to clinical and public health research for researchers at different stages of their careers. ECF is mainly for postdoctoral scientists who wish to undertake high-quality research and establish themselves as independent researchers in India. Eligibility: ECF competition is open for basic science/veterinary researchers with nil to 4 yrs of post-PhD research experience. Applicants in the final yr of their PhD are also eligible. The India Alliance has no restrictions based on age or nationality in all its schemes. Early Career Fellows are strongly encouraged to carry out their Fellowship project in a laboratory that is not their thesis laboratory or thesis environment. All schemes require a preliminary application. Short-listed applicants are invited to submit a full application, which are sent out for international peer-review and screened by the India Alliance's Fellowship Selection Committee. Selected applicants are invited for interview with the Fellowship Selection Committee. Fellowship amount: Fellows are provided with the salary support set by the India Alliance for each scheme i.e. up to 10.3 Lakh per annum. In cases where a Fellow has been receiving a salary from their Host Institution, a top up is provided to meet the indicated salary level. Generous research funds up to 1.7 Crores are provided to commensurate with the requirements of the proposed research along with the flexibility to spend as necessary to meet the research goals. Additionally, funds to foster collaborations including funds for collaborative visits (short or long term), visits for training, conferences and meetings are also provided, with no restriction on frequency or location. The duration is up to 5 yrs.
