Major Achievements

Empowering Women Scientists

Women scientists get major support through Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement through Nurturing (KIRAN) launched in 2014 to bring gender parity in science. The programme is aimed at providing opportunities to women scientists who had a break in their career primarily due to family responsibilities. The programme includes women-exclusive schemes and encourages them to foster their career by undertaking research not only in science & engineering but also for societal benefit besides making a career through entrepreneurship and training in intellectual property management. KIRAN supports around 500 women every year in R&D, societal applications of S&T and training on Intellectual Property Management. Two new components, viz. ‘Mobility’ and ‘KIRAN Overseas Fellowship for Women in STEM’ have been initiated in 2016-17.
