IN246902: A process for the preparation of a novel zeolite catalyst useful for the hydro-isomerization of light alkanes

The invention relates to the development of zeolite catalysts for the hydro-isomerization of light alkanes by the pre and post synthesis modifications of molecular sieves such as hydrothermal synthesis, treatment of the material in presence of steam and acid solutions so as to modify the properties for achieving the better isomerization activity towards light alkanes such as n-Hexane, where in two molecular sieves, namely, mordenite and beta differing in pore channel geometry, were studied for the tailor-making of properties by dealumination and metal incorporation methods, where in it was observed that irrespective to the differences in pore structure both the molecular sieves exhibited improved hydro-isomerization activities after the mild dealumination and the performance was further improved after the addition of one or more metals from the groups of Pt, Zn, Ga, Mg etc.
