The present invention provides a bioactive hexane fraction CIM 109 from the plant Vetivera zizanioides useful for inhibiting the growth of drug resistant bacterial pathogens, said bioactive hexane fraction is effective in an amount ranging from 100 mg to 500 mg and inhibit the bacterial pathogen which are resistant to nalidixic acid, oxolinic acid , sparfloxicin , ciprofloxacin and any other quinolones.
