A Cooking Process for Silk Cocoons

This invention relates to cooking process for silk cocoons especially Tasar cocoons. According to this invention, there is provided a process for cooking the Tasar cocoons comprising in adjusting the Tasar cocoons in a container having amine solution therein such that the full cocoon being dipped in above solution, treating said cocoons with said solution at a temperature of 70 to 90 deg C for a period of 30 to 120 minutes, washing said cocoons with water and squeezing them gently to remove excess water. The cocoons so obtained are deflossed to remove the upper flossy layer from the cocoons and to find out the rear end of the cocoon filament to facilitate the reeling operation. The bulk of the silk filaments obtained by this process were of better quality than those by conventional methods. Special Features: Easy and energy efficient process to produce good quality silk yarn.
