Acrylic water based coating for the protection of concrete structure was formulated using acrylic based emulsions pigments fillers and other additives .The coating was tested for various physico-mechanical properties along with chemical resistance, accelerated durability and out door exposure tests. The developed surface coating fulfils the minimum requirements for various tests mentioned in Japanese Industrial Standard Wall Coating for thin textured finishes, JIS A 6909-1984. The salient features of the coating are that it can be easily applied on various substrates like concrete, mortar and asbestos cement sheets as the coating has good adhesion with these substrates. On the basis of performance of the coating under various tests, it is recommended for both interior as well as Exterior applications. The coating can be produced in smooth and textured finishes.
