Executive Summary :

In the present project, an attempt will be made to study the association of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in foundry workers who are exposed to hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and also the association of MSDs with work stressors. This project includes the personal information of workers (age, sex, height), workers' hand-arm exposure to different vibrating tools and machines, vibration analysis, postural stress, mental stress, physiological demand while operating vibrating tools during the course of work, nutritional and socio-economic status, and also some of the biomechanical characteristics like whole body CG and change in the location of CG for different modes of postural. None of the studies till date has been conducted to associate HAVS with MSDs and also the role of work stressors in generating the most severe musculoskeletal injuries among foundry workers in India. Indian foundry workers are quite ignorant about these health problems. They usually believe it's an age-related ailment rather than an occupational health hazard. Furthermore, occupational MSDs are an international concern because they result in high costs for the industry and a lower quality of life for the workers. In all occupations, whether industrial, agricultural, construction, or domestic, where workers are in contact with high-speed machines and tools, they are at a high risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
