The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) was approved by the Union Cabinet in December 2018 with a total outlay of ₹3,660 crore for five years and is implemented by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. The Mission aims to create a strong ecosystem for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) through research and development, translational research, technology and product development, human resource and skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship, start-up support and commercialization. Under NM-ICPS, 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) have been established in reputed academic and R&D institutions across the country, covering advanced technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Robotics, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Agriculture & Water Technologies, Advanced Communication Systems and Quantum Technologies. The financial support for each TIH is about ₹115 crore in project mode for a period of five years. The Mission was subsequently extended by four years and is currently continued up to December 2027.
Academic and R&D institutions meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria can participate in the establishment/implementation of TIHs. Start-ups, innovators, students and researchers may participate through specific programmes and calls launched by individual TIHs; eligibility and funding vary by programme.
