The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) was launched by DST in December 2018 with a total outlay of Rs. 3,660 crore to build a strong ecosystem for research, skill development, start-ups and commercialization in cyber-physical systems (CPS) technologies such as AI, IoT, robotics, drones and quantum. The Mission has established 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) at leading academic and R&D institutions, each spearheading a specific technology domain across the full technology life cycle (knowledge generation, technology development, translation and commercialization). In addition to research and skilling, the TIHs run their own start-up seed-support and incubation programmes, including initial funding for student start-ups.
Eligibility: Technology Innovation Hubs are hosted by academic, R&D and other institutions selected through a call for proposals. Start-ups, innovators and student entrepreneurs working in the domain of a TIH can apply to that hub through its own start-up calls. Online submission is through the NM-ICPS portal only.
Funding Grant: Financial support of about Rs. 115 crore per TIH in project mode for a period of five years. Seed support to start-ups is provided by individual TIHs under their own programmes; the amount varies from hub to hub.
Time Period: Five years per hub (Mission launched in 2018)
