Expanding Quantum Labs Across India
India is stepping up its efforts in next-generation technologies under the National Quantum Mission, with approval granted for setting up quantum teaching facilities and laboratories in 23 academic institutions across several states. Around 100 more institutions are currently under consideration.
The initiative aims to strengthen advanced research and build a skilled workforce in areas such as quantum computing, communication, and sensing through improved access to specialised infrastructure and hands-on training.
The update was shared during a joint monthly review meeting of Secretaries of science ministries and departments, held under the chairmanship of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh. The meeting was attended by Principal Scientific Adviser Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood; Secretary, DST Prof. Abhay Karandikar; Secretary, DBT Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale; Secretary, DSIR Dr. N. Kalaiselvi; Secretary, MoES Dr. M. Ravichandran; ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan, along with other senior officials.
The meeting also reviewed progress on major scientific programmes, upcoming national initiatives, and efforts to strengthen coordination across ministries, reflecting a broader push to reinforce India’s scientific ecosystem.
