An improved process for preparation of nicotinamides

The present invention relates to an improved process for conversion of cyanopyridines to nicotinamides in the range of 0.8 to 2.0 moles in water in the range of 1.5 to 8.0 moles; add manganese dioxide catalyst prepared in neutral medium in the range of 0.01 to 0.03 moles, refluxing the reaction mixture at the temperature in the range of 100 to 115°C for a time period in the range of 6 to 15 hours, cc room temperature filtering and washing with water the resultant mixture and evaporating the filtrate to dryness to obtain the said nicotinamide.
