Description : | Punjab State Climate Change Knowledge Centre set up in PSCST is working towards enhancing capacities of various stakeholders in the field of climate change, spreading knowledge and integrating climate change concerns in the State's developmental strategy.
Further, the centre has finalized the SAPCC 2.0 and has submitted to MoEF&CC, GoI. For controlling non-CO2 emissions and other Short-lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs), in line with State priorities identified under SAPCC 2.0, collaboration with the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD) has been further strengthened and many key initiatives, such as Green skilling and Decentralized Cold Chain Management have been identified for demonstration in the State to explore their technical and socio-economic aspects before replication.
PSCCKC has carried out District level Climate change Risk Assessment based on hazard, exposure and vulnerability. Further, Vulnerability Assessment of the Agriculture sector and block level is underway. The centre has also prepared database of Research Publications pertaining to environment & climate change w.r.t Agro-forestry, Biodiversity, Energy and Waste management and uploaded the same at PSCST website (https://pscst.punjab.gov.in/en/our-centres/punjab-state-climate-change-knowledge-centre). Presently, database of >170 research papers pertaining to Climate change and environment are available at website.
The centre has demonstrated Climate Resilient (CR) Cattle Sheds to enhance adaptive capacity of Livestock farmers. For this work ‘Enhancing Adaptive Capacity of Livestock Farmers & Youth Entrepreneurs in Changing Climate Scenario’, the centre has been conferred with RCE recognition Award 2023 by United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNUIAS), Japan during 15th Asia-Pacific Regional meet of Global RCE Network.
The centre has organized 13 capacity building programs (workshops, conference, Vigyan Mela & Pashu Palan Mela) for sensitization of Students, Researchers, Faculties of schools, colleges & universities, Farmers, Industries, food vendors, Hotel Managements on climate action, Mission LiFE, green skills, sustainable livestock & farming practices and energy efficient cleaner strategies and technologies with > 6000 beneficiaries. In addition, 10 Radio talks in vernacular language have been broadcasted on FM100.2 through All India Radio (AIR), Patiala & Chandigarh during Feb-Nov, 2023 under year-long series launched on the Climate Change & Mission LiFE, having outreach of >3 lakh listeners.
