Executive Summary :

This study aims to create artificial enzymes inspired by natural enzymes like monooxygenases and peroxidases. Monooxygenases use molecular oxygen and sacrificial reductants to introduce oxygen atoms into substrates, while peroxidases decompose hydrogen peroxide to prevent oxidative damage. The researchers propose synthesizing binuclear molybdenum and tungsten metal-organic frameworks (MOF-253) as artificial enzymes. The flexibility of bipyridyl linkers within MOF-253 allows for easy adjustments within active sites. Analytical methods like ICP-Ms, TGA, FT-IR, and XAs will be used to characterize MOF-based artificial enzymes. These enzymes can catalyze oxidative reactions of organic compounds, such as C-H oxidation and alkene epoxidation, using molecular oxygen as the primary oxidizing agent. The research also evaluates the peroxidase-mimicking activity of MOFs on dopamine, pyrogallol, and o-phenylenediamine.
