Executive Summary : | Worldwide, demand for quality education is high, far exceeding its supply. While an ideal teacher:student ratio is around 1:20 to 1:30, in most institutions for higher education, class sizes of around 100 students are common-place, with some core and popular courses often touching 500 students! This takes toll on the quality of learning. On the other hand, the smart-phone revolution is fast making inroads into the student population. In this project, we will develop a suite of smart-phone based teaching aids that will contribute towards improving student learning as well as aid teachers to manage large classes. These aids will permit teachers to conduct cheating free examinations, share files with students, help conduct discussions and permit quick polling. We are unaware of any applications that handle the above at scale (using WiFi); the exam application also needs systematic addressing of security issues. |
