Executive Summary :

The study primarily aims at modelling the current COVID-19 pandemic to understand its spread in India and to simulate different strategies that affect its future spread and long-term impact. A modified compartmental model will be developed and trained using real-time data of spread of the pandemic in India. Effects of temperature, age distribution, temporal testing strategies and heterogeneous lock-downs on the spread will be studied. A particle-based model will also be developed to account for heterogeneity in population density, transmission rates and containment strategies, to develop fundamental insights into kinetics and management of infectious diseases.

Outcome/Output:

A compartmental model has been developed based on the classic SIR modelling approach, which also accounts for deaths. The model helps in understanding the spread of the infection in different states. Many of these findings can be adapted to understand and manage similar epidemics.
