Executive Summary : | Live-cell videos of organ tissues, primarily containing organoids, are used to understand disease and treatment procedures in laboratories. These 3D organ-like structures represent the health of the native organ and offer new opportunities for disease understanding, person-specific medicine, and drug discovery. However, the primary challenge is the lack of novel automated, open-source, customizable systems to derive new knowledge from live-cell videos. Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), deep learning, and computer vision (CV) have enabled new ways of living-cell video analysis. OpenLivingCellAnalysis aims to address this challenge by providing an AI-powered open-source initiative to develop analytical tools that standardize state-of-the-art analysis, provide open-source tools, and encourage global AI communities to contribute to the research. The goal is to enrich the state-of-the-art analysis of organoids and their health, disease, and life cycle, opening up knowledge about sub-cellular and inter-cellular behavior and properties of tissues. The ambition is to solve the primary problems that prevent the realization of the vision, namely the lack of suitable AI powered technology for live-cell video analysis, and create new opportunities for live-cell microscopy video analysis research and exploit them. |
