Executive Summary : | Shared decision making (SDM) offers a structured way to incorporate evidence as well as patient values and preferences into medical decision making. Use of shared decision making and decision aids is one strategy that could improve health professional involvement and patient understanding of tobacco cessation treatment, leading to increased use and improved outcomes. As SDM support conversations leading to better-informed decisions congruent with what matters most to patients whereas it is not as such with individual decision so this process will involve healthcare professionals and participants in identification and decision for treatment at the primary care level. The study will compare the shared decision making with randomly allocated group at 3 months (end of treatment) & 6 months (follow-up) with the hypothesis to identify 20% or above of point prevalence tobacco abstinence with shared decision making process. The study will also assess the change in knowledge and patient satisfaction with the treatment which will be done with pre-tested questionnaire and Patient satisfaction questionnaire (PSQ-18) respectively. Thus the planned study on shared decision making in tobacco dependence treatment collaborated by clinicians will help patients to reach evidence-informed and value-congruent medical decisions. |
