Executive Summary : | Gait is the pattern of movement of limbs during motion of animals and gait analysis deals with the study of this pattern. A gait cycle is the basic unit for walking. It begins when the foot contacts the ground, followed by the next contact of the same foot. The analysis of gait has been seen in various domains, mainly in healthcare, defence, industry and sports. There are two major ways of analysing gait: using non-wearables and wearables. vision based systems, environment based and radio frequency based systems come under non-wearables, while sensors such as inertial measurement units (IMUs), force sensing resistors come under wearables. This proposal aims to develop a complete gait analysis system consisting of electromyography (EMG) sensors, IMUs and FSR. This complete system will be used to provide a quantitative analysis of gait. this setup will be used to quantify the gait cycle in terms of temporal, Spatial, kinematic and kinetic data that can't be gathered by observation. The applications which will benefit from this study are as follows: diagnosis of disease affecting gait, fall detection, freezing of gait detection, human activity recognition, gait improvement, rehabilitation and sports biomechanics. |
