KALP Portal: Enabling Weather-Informed Decision Making for Farmers
Weather variability continues to influence agricultural productivity, making timely and location-specific weather information increasingly important for farm planning. Integrating weather intelligence with crop management can help farmers reduce production risks, optimise input use and improve resilience against changing climatic conditions.
To support this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has developed the KALP (Krishi Advisory based on Location-Specific Weather Prediction) Portal. The platform combines weather forecasting with crop-specific advisories, enabling farmers to make informed decisions based on local weather conditions and crop growth stages.
The portal provides location-specific weather forecasts and generates advisories tailored to different stages of crop development. Farmers can select their farm location using GPS or geographic coordinates, allowing the system to deliver weather information relevant to their fields.
