Brief Description

Description :

The technology comprises know-how of manufacturing multifunctional bamboo composite material for modern housing and structures using bamboo as raw material. The newly developed bamboo composite material can serve as a competitive, sustainable and environment-friendly alternative material, useful in the construction of smart green buildings as it has very attractive features like, aesthetic appearance, acoustic and thermal insulation. It also possesses excellent mechanical properties required for structural applications. The property of bamboo composite material is superior to teak wood in terms of stiffness, strength, moisture content, uniformity and consistency. A finished product of bamboo composite is economic over the teak wood and also existing bamboo composites of similar specifications. The CSIR-AMPRI bamboo composites can be converted to panels of different thicknesses, widths and lengths, which can be used for applications in wall-panels, partitions, laminates, floorings, thermal/electrical insulations, doors, windows, table tops, false ceilings etc. The thicker sections can be used as structural elements such as beams, columns, trusses, benches, floor support etc.Manufacturing of bamboo compositeswill be beneficial to the bamboo cultivators in India, which helps in employment generation.
