Executive Summary :

Objective: Development of therapeutic and biosensors based point-of-care diagnostic medical devices. Development of technological solutions for elderly &divyangjan focused towards assistive device and rehabilitation aids for improvement in their quality of life. Development of state-of-art imaging based technologies for non-invasive medical diagnosis applications. Development of state-of-art orthopaedic implants particularly augment for revision surgery implants, extendable implants and dental implants using 3D printing technology

Summary: This CSIR-Mission Mode Program on “Medical Instruments & Devices”has been formulated with an aim to take lead in the manufacturing of high-end medical devices in the country. High-end medical devices are mainly manufactured by multinational companies and mostly imported. In present government policies, the main thrust should be on reducing the import dependency by manufacturing even high technology medical devices in India. Unless strong R&D efforts be put, it is very difficult to take lead in the manufacturing of high-end medical devices in the country. Therefore, the main aim of this mission is to put focused S&T efforts for the development of medical device segment. The mission has four focus areas proposed as verticals are: 1. Diagnostic & Therapeutic Devices; 2. Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies for Elderly & Differently Abled Population; 3. Imaging based technologies for Medical Application; and 4. Advanced manufacturing based Orthopaedic & Dental Implants.
