Executive Summary :

This project proposal aims to develop a novel technique to construct C–N bonds using dual photoredox and organocatalysis. Visible light will be used as an energy source to trigger sustainable organic synthesis. The enantioselective synthesis of α-amino carbonyls can also be achieved using photoredox chemistry and chiral amine based organocatalysis together as dual catalysis. The challenging asymmetric C–N bond formation using this methodology will be studied. Modular imine will be used as the aminating source and its umpolung reactivity will be extensively exploited. The rare generation of N-center radical from strategically designed imine by single-electro-transfer (SET) under photoredox catalysis should guide the above discussed transformation efficiently. Furthermore, the induction of chirality in the synthesized products will be done by dual photoredox-chiral phosphoric acid catalysis. Following the concept of electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) chemistry, various new classes of racemic and chiral C−H aminated compounds will also be synthesized. In addition, efforts will be devoted towards the synthesis of biologically important molecules and late-stage functionalization of drug molecules to demonstrate the applicability of current methodologies.
