Executive Summary : | India is losing Rs.18,000 crore per annum due to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. This is due to reduced milk production and animal death. The disease is highly contagious and often undiagnosed. However, early detection can save animals and minimize losses. This project aims to develop an Intelligent Internet of Things (IIoT)-based portable device that can detect FMD in dairy cows and inform farmers and veterinary doctors. This technology has significant potential benefits for profitable dairy farming, as it allows for remote monitoring of general health and FMD status. IoT networks can be reprogrammed or retasked after deployment in the field, providing a flexible and robust monitoring system capable of remotely registering vital parameters. The proposed IoT-based wireless sensor networks will use Zig Bee (IEEE 802.15.4) as the wireless communication protocol. Each node in the network will be equipped with a body sensor to measure vital physiological parameters related to FMD. The nodes will be programmed to measure received signal strength, allowing the distance between wireless sensors and a gateway to be estimated. Decision trees are chosen as the best candidate for evaluating animal responses, as they offer simplicity and accuracy compared to fuzzy logic and neural network classifiers. The automated system will continuously and remotely monitor a large number of cows' health status with minimal human involvement. |
