Executive Summary : | Owing to the high cost of feedstock powder and its impact on the total production cost, lesser availability of pre-alloyed powders are the major impediments for the use of β-Ti alloys through Additive Manufacturing. These parts could be made by choosing a suitable AM process while using elemental powder mix as a feedstock instead of the customized pre-alloyed powders. The choice of parameters will play the major role in developing defect free components from these pre-mixed powders. The optimization of parameters is more challenging in this case. However, once accomplished, this could bring a big success in terms of efficiency, availability and cost reduction of the β Ti-alloys for bio-medical applications. |
