Executive Summary :

Herein, our main focus of the project is to develop stable ultramicroporous ionic metal-organic frameworks (iMOFs) for efficient and selective separation of industrially relevant light hydrocarbons. To develop stable ultramicroporous ionic MOFs, mainly two strategies will be followed, (i) functionalized linker based pre-synthetic approach to develop anionic and cationic MOFs and (ii) post-synthetic modification (PSM) of stable porous MOFs to incorporate suitable functionalities into the porous architectures to impart ionic nature. After synthesis of targeted functionalized ionic MOFs by pre-synthetic or post-synthetic approach, compounds will be characterized with various techniques. Then those compounds will be studied for physisorption based light hydrocarbon separations. The best performed materials would be further employed for experimental multicomponent breakthrough studies to extract their true potential in real-time applications.
