Executive Summary :

Leishmaniases are responsible for high mortality and morbidity among the world's poorest populations and is a particular health challenge in India. Great strides are being made towards visceral leishmaniasis elimination goals in India, although residual baseline disease incidence persists. It is thus urgently required to establish Mathematical transmission model to address knowledge gaps in transmission that provide a framework for future development of both operational and scientific research. Through this research proposal, we propose to build mathematical transmission models of VL that will enhance our understanding of the pattern of disease transmission at regional and national level, and provide the quantitative predictions and forecasts of programmatic and epidemiological changes and to evaluate the feasibility of control program.
