Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET)

BET, the DBT-JRF program was initiated in 2004 for providing fellowship to pursue research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and is presently coordinated by Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi. The BET merit list contains 2 categories. Category I (Top 275) fellowship are tenable in any University/Institute in India where the students can register for Ph.D. In Category II, 100 students will be eligible to join any DBT sponsored project through proper selection process and avail equivalent fellowship from the project. Eligibility: Students appearing in final yr examination or having M.Sc./M.Tech/ M.V.Sc. degree with Biotechnology in title e.g. specialization such as Agricultural, Animal/Veterinary, Medical, Marine, Industrial, Environmental, Pharmaceutical, Food, Biochemical Engineering, Bioinformatics and M.Sc "Molecular & Human Genetics" and M.Sc."Neuroscience" as well as BE/B.Tech in Biotechnology are eligible to apply, subject to getting minimum qualifying percentage of marks. Fellowship amount: JRF/SRF are entitled to a monthly scholarship (Rs. 25000/28000) plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms and an annual contingency grant of Rs.30000. The total tenure of the fellowship shall be upto 5 yr or the date of PhD viva-voce, whichever earlier. Continuation of the fellowship every year is based on the satisfactory performance of the candidates, as decided by the competent authorities.
