Executive Summary :

This proposal focus on use of waste tire rubber ash as substitute of cement and using fine aggregate produced from recycled concrete fines as substitute of fine aggregates for the production of concrete. It’s planned to study the various properties such as material characterization, mechanical properties and durability properties of concrete on use of waste tire rubber and recycled concrete fines as some replacement of cement and aggregate in concrete. The entire project is planned to work in different phases. The first phase involves material characterization and evaluation of the two material namely waste tire rubber and recycled concrete fines. The second phase is preparation and evaluation of concrete mixes with proposed material to check various mechanical properties of concrete with different curing period. The third phase is preparation and evaluation of concrete mixes with proposed material to check various durability properties of concrete with different curing period. Finally the obtained results will be compared and consolidated for further recommendations. Based on the optimum dosage obtained the recommended waste material can be proposed to construction industry for utilizing the waste material in proper dosage in making structural elements such as beams, slabs, columns etc., ultimately the end user will be benefited in constructing a cost effective structure. (i) Collection and characterization of waste tire rubber and recycled concrete fines (a) Collection of materials and pulverizing Waste tire rubber need to be collected and crushed. Since the proposed waste tire rubber ash need to be used as partial replaced with cement, the required size of waste tire rubber ash need pulverize using pulverizer. The pulveriser is suitable to grind up to 75 microns range. The recycled concrete fines includes 60 mm, 40mm, 20mm, 2mm and less than 2mm range approximately. In this research plan it’s proposed to use recycled concrete fines as partial replacement of fine aggregate. Hence the required size of fines range from 2.36 mm to lesser sizes of 1.18 mm and microns can be procured and processed. At an initial stage the replacement of rubber ash will be 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, 15%. Based on the performance the trail percentage can be slightly increased to arrive an optimum dosage. Recycled concrete fines replacement of fine aggregate of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%. Based on the performance the trail percentage can be slightly increased to arrive an optimum dosage if required. Based on the optimum dosage obtained from various test results the recommended waste material can be proposed to construction industry for utilizing the waste material in proper dosage in making structural elements such as beams, slabs, columns etc., ultimately the end user will be benefited in constructing a cost effective structure.
