Executive Summary :

The fundamental theme of the proposed work is to synthesize optically tuned blue to red emissive carbon quantum dots as FRET donor and plasmonic and semiconductor nanomaterials as FRET acceptors. It is hypothesized that the optically tuned carbon quantum dots will transfer the fluorescence energy to the acceptor nanomaterials leading to the fluorescence quenching (Turn-off). The FRET process can be varied on the basis of dimension of the materials. Therefore, an experimental procedure will be design to investigate the extent of FRET process between carbon quantum dots and nanomaterials. Besides the tuning optical properties of carbon quantum dots, different dimensional plasmonic nanomaterials (nanoparticles, nanorods) and semiconductor (nanosheet, nanorods and nanowires) will be design for effective FRET process. On the ground of FRET process, different optical sensors will be developed for detection of organophosphorus pesticides, thiolated biomolecules, glucose and cholesterol. Further, optically tuned carbon quantum dots will be applied as probe for fluorescence imaging of bacterial and cancer cells.
