4x4 Multilayer Microstrip Patch Array Antenna for MSS Type D Terminal

The 4x4 planar antenna is developed at SAC Ahmedabad and consist of 5 layers stacked vertically. The bottom layer is foam layer of 10 mm thick, second layer is RT Duroid of 0.787 mm thick. Corporate feed network of 4x4 array on the bottom of this layer & H shaped coupling apertures on top of this layer (slots) are printed. Third layer is RT duroid of 1.57 mm thick. The bottom side of this layer is completely etched out and on top side 4*4 array of microstrip patches are printed. This layer acts as a natural radome for the antenna. The feed network is a corporate feed and is coupled to the microstrip patches by two perpendicularly displaced h shaped coupling apertures. The patches are square in shape to generate circular polarization.
