MoES announces Expression of Interest for Risk Reduction in High Mountain Regions of the Himalaya

Aims to promote an integrated approach in addressing the accelerated risks in the High Mountain Regions of the Himalaya, with a focus on risks related to permafrost degradation, Glacial Lake Outburst of Floods (GLOFs) and snow and ice avalanches. The individual EOIs may be submitted in any one of the above-mentioned research areas, focusing on one of the Himalayan states, namely, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh or union territories, namely Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Eligibility: Universities, Research/Academic institutions, as well as non-governmental organisations in the country for focused research in the following thrust areas: 1. Mapping and monitoring of cryospheric hazards 2. Modelling cryospheric hazards for vulnerability and risk assessment 3. Developing risk reduction techniques for cryospheric hazards
