Executive Summary :

Objective: To understand chemical interactions between marine organisms like microbes, microalgae and invertebrates. Understand the factors influencing the microbiome structuring of host organisms in selected ecosystems. To study microbial Diversity in extreme environments. To Screen extremophiles for the biotechnological applications such as biofuels, biopolymers and value added products. To develop bioactive molecules & formulations for healthcare. To identify potential dietary fibers (algal polysaccharides & oligosaccharides) and pigments from seaweeds for healthcare applications. Chemical characterization of potential pigments and sugars identified for healthcare applications. To screen and maximize the yield of potential bioresources from microalgae. Enhancing the growth, survival and nutritive value of cultured fish/shrimp and marine ornamentals through introduction of live feed organisms. Characterization of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin degrading marine thermophiles.
