Executive Summary :

Objective: a) To identify molecular secretory signatures of disease severity and susceptibility of developing severe lung fibrosis in Coal/metalliferous miners using sputum and Exhaled breath condensate as tools b) Assessing the human exposure to Traffic emissions using Urine and its effects on lung function c) To explore the possible biochemical and molecular mechanisms behind environmental toxicants like Diesel extract particle/Coal mine dust mediated lung pathology. d) DHA supplementation along with inhaled budesonide in 20 more steroid insensitive/resistant asthmatics and 20 steroid insensitive COPD patients as a continuation of CRISP-NCP Project e) Effects of key environmental pollutants like traffic emission, cigarette smoke, Biomass smoke in Traffic sergeants/auto drivers, smokers with or without COPD, village women who use Biomass fuel as primary fuel for cooking on ex vivo steroid insensitivity and in vivo steroid insensitivity in mice models.
