Executive Summary :

The research aims to isolate the first examples of air and water stable bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylenes) using bulky dipyrrinate ligands. After successfully synthesizing these compounds, their reactivity at ambient conditions will be tested to isolate bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylene cyanides), bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylene hydrides), and bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylene hydroxides). The application potential of various bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylenes) obtained through reactivity studies will also be checked. The research group of the PI has synthesized air and water stable germylenes through bulky dipyrrinate ligand stabilization, so the feasibility of this approach to isolate the first examples is planned to be checked in this project. The main experiments will include the synthesis of air and water stable bis- 4, tris- 7, and tetrakis(germylene monochlorides) 11, reactions with sodium pyrrolide followed by treatment with trimethylsilyl cyanide to isolate bis- 12, tris- 15, and tetrakis(germylene cyanides), treatment with two, three, and four equivs of K-selectride for the synthesis of bis 13-, tris- 16, and tetrakis(germylene hydrides), hydrolysis of compounds 4, 7, and 11 in the presence of an excess of cesium carbonate to obtain bis- 14, tris- 17, and tetrakis(germylene hydroxides), study of catalytic applications of bis- 12, tris- 15, and tetrakis(germylene cyanides) as catalysts for cyanosilylation of aldehydes and ketones, and the potential use of these compounds as antiproliferative agents for human cancer cell lines. The project's goals have several implications, including offering the first set of air and water stable bis-, tris-, and tetrakis(germylenes) and revolutionizing the main group chemistry.
