Indo-Us Research Career Transition Award Programme (Khorana-Nirenberg Scholars)
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), M/o Science & Technology, Govt. of India with National Institutes of Health (NIH), initiated a an Indo-US Research Career Transition Award Programme (Khorana-Nirenberg Scholars) to foster collaborative biomedical research and training. The goal of this joint programme is to establish long-term career paths for Indian scientists of exceptional ability and with strong potential for leadership in their field. The Programme has two phases, a period of post-doctoral training (2-3 years) at NIH followed by a research or faculty position (2-3 years) funded by DBT at one of India’s Centers of Scientific Research. The nodal agencies to implement the programme are the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India and the HHS National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA.

The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Government of Spain, are the nodal implementing agencies from the Indian and Spanish side respectively. Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is the nodal agency under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India for the promotion of research, development and innovation in the field of biotechnology. DBT funds and supports all Indian universities, research organisations, non-governmental organisations and industry working in the area of biotechnology. The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) is a Public Entity under the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, Government of Spain, which fosters the technological development and innovation of Spanish Companies. Minimum eligibility criteria: at least one qualified partner from India and one qualified partner from Spain (1 company from Spain +1 entity from India). The project must clearly specify the costs of each and all the activities pertaining to the project and delineate the costs to be respectively borne by the Spanish and Indian partners.
