Title: | Fenton Activated Carbon Catalytic Oxidation (FACCO) Process for the Treatment of High Strength Wastewater |
Area: | Earth, Atmosphere & Environment Sciences |
Focus Area: | Water-based Technologies |
Status: | Implemented in chemical, Pesticide manufacturing industry, Dye intermediate manufacturing industry. |
Patent: | IN253584 |
Social Benefits: | Formation of ferric hydroxide sludge serves as a catalyst to decompose hydrogen peroxide. The post Fenton oxidation processes demand the adjustment of pH of the wastewater to the neutral condition resulting in high total dissolved solids and high sludge formation. Treatment of wastewater discharged from Industrial with high COD and high TDS with minimum sludge production. |

Brief Description
Description : | This process is developed for treating high-strength wastewater with high COD and TDS levels, particularly from industrial sources such as chemical and pesticide industries. It uses a packed bed reactor containing ferrous ion-loaded nanoporous activated carbon catalyst. Hydroxyl radicals generated through the reaction of ferrous ions with hydrogen peroxide oxidize organic pollutants. The reactor includes zones for wastewater distribution, oxidation under counter-current flow conditions, and separation of treated water from air. Unlike conventional Fenton processes, it minimizes sludge generation and reduces issues associated with pH adjustment and high dissolved solids.
Key Features: • Uses ferrous ion-loaded activated carbon catalyst for advanced oxidation • Generates hydroxyl radicals for effective degradation of organic pollutants • Three-zone reactor design for distribution, oxidation, and separation • Minimizes sludge formation compared to traditional Fenton processes • Suitable for high COD and high TDS wastewater treatment |
