Indo UK Life Sciences Innovation Hub
The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), India’s premier bio-incubator and innovation hub, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the Roslin Innovation Centre at the University of Edinburgh under the Indo UK Sister Innovation Hub agreement.
The aim of the letter of intent (LOI) is to foster and promote the best deep science innovations that impact both science and society in India and UK.
Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), an initiative of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, has worked extensively to establish a strong life science innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem across the country.
Edinburgh based Roslin Innovation Centre offers one of the world’s largest concentrations of Animal Science expertise and is a hub for companies undertaking strategic, commercial and collaborative research in the Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Agritech and One Health industries.
The LOI was signed by Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, CEO and Director of C-CAMP and John Mackenzie, CEO of the Roslin Innovation centre. This partnership with Roslin—whose scientists created the world’s first cloned mammal, Dolly the sheep, will help develop joint translational research in livestock genomics and health. It will also open up avenues to C-CAMP and Roslin’s network of partners to develop new and productive relationships for doing business in both India and the UK.
The LoI which was signed in presence of Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, India, marks the inking of the Second Sister Innovation Hub by C-CAMP after C-CAMP’s first with California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences, QB3 in 2016. The collaboration with the Roslin Innovation Centre will strengthen Indo-UK bilateral ties in science-based entrepreneurship, research and business—especially in the Agriculture and Animal Health sectors. The new signing is envisioned to also augment C-CAMP’s current efforts in Agritech and Allied space under its recently launched Agri Innovation Centre program.
On the occasion of the signing, Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, CEO & Director, C-CAMP, said “This is only a beginning to wonderful discussions with colleagues at Roslin Institute, the centre that gave Dolly the Sheep.
