Executive Summary :

Objective: (1) Design and development of laboratory scale air fluidized separators (2) Development of dry beneficiation process schemefor low grade iron ore.

Summary: Though wet beneficiation technologies for iron ore are well established, owing to issues like scarcity of water or disposal of reject as slurry, need for dry beneficiation technology is being felt by the concerned Industries. Although work in discrete pockets has been reported, comprehensive work ondry beneficiation process scheme for iron ore has not been attempted. In view of this project work was proposed to develop a dry beneficiation process technology for iron ore to produce the sinter and pellet feed concentrate. Proposed dry beneficiation techniques will includes dry separation based on different physical properties like density, magnetic susceptibility etc. depending upon the characteristics of iron ore. Due to unavailability of dry density separator technology for iron ore, firstly it is needed to develop a laboratory scale dry density separator. CSIR-NML has already carried out the feasibility study of gravity based pneumatic separation of iron ore through in-house projects. Proposed study includes thefabrication of indigenous dry separator in laboratory scale based on previous investigation as cited above. Two principles will be utilized for development of dry density separators 1) difference in minimum fluidization velocities of the particles 2) Terminal velocity differences of the particles. In the view of this proposed work have two major tasks: (1) Design and development of laboratory scale air fluidized separators (2) Development of dry beneficiation process schemefor low grade iron ore.
